This test will measure your hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen, while hematocrit indicates the percentage of your blood volume made up of red blood cells.

If your hemoglobin and hematocrit levels are low, your doctor may also check your ferritin levels. Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in your body.

Low ferritin levels may suggest iron deficiency anemia.

The treatment for anemia depends on its type. For iron deficiency anemia, your doctor may recommend iron supplements to replenish iron levels in your body. They might also suggest dietary changes to include more iron-rich foods.

In cases of other types of anemia, your doctor may recommend supplements such as vitamin B12 or folic acid. In more severe instances, blood transfusions may be necessary.
